Many prior works have described the inventory and surface distribution of second-position clitics in Tagalog (Schachter & Otanes 1972, Kaufman 2010, a.o.). In this talk, we investigate the logical syntactic positions of clitic adverbs by considering the scope-taking behavior of clitic adverbs such pa ‘still,’ na ‘already,’ din ‘also,’ and lang ‘only,’ with respect to negation and with each other. The results reveal that clitic adverbs do not have a uniform syntax.
